Ground Intelligence

Ground Intelligence turns Samsara’s network of camera-equipped commercial vehicles into eyes on the road for cities. Every pothole a vehicle hits is logged with video and location, so public works teams can fix roads by severity instead of waiting for 311 complaints.

The challenge was turning millions of raw sensor hits into something a city could trust and act on. The answer was to stop showing detections and start showing problems: each pothole became one record with video evidence, ranked by severity and tracked until fixed.

I led design for this 0-to-1 product from first sketch to the main stage. We reached GA in a quarter, closed a ~$1.3M flagship city deal, and built a $14M+ pipeline in 4 months.

Weather Intelligence

Weather Intelligence gives fleets a real-time view of road and weather conditions. Weather radar, National Weather Service alerts and minutes-old dashcam images sit together on one map, so safety teams can spot hazards and warn drivers before conditions turn dangerous.

Weather warnings can span a whole county, but a safety manager needs to know if this road is icy right now. I designed an experience that pairs every forecast with live camera evidence, so teams can act on what’s happening on the ground.

I led design as part of a small experimental team of engineers, and I’m a named inventor on the patent for the road condition monitoring system behind it.

AI Safety Detections

I led foundational research and design for Samsara’s flagship AI safety features that detect drowsy driving and unsafe lane departures, alerting drivers in time to prevent crashes.

Working with ML scientists, I designed in-cab alerts that escalate with the severity of drowsiness: calm enough not to startle, firm enough to wake a driver up. Together, drowsiness and lane departure detection unlocked $57M in ACV, and I’m a named inventor on the patent.

Inbox Triage Experience

I led the redesign and launch of Safety Inbox, Samsara’s most-used feature with 70k+ monthly active users. It helps fleet safety managers detect and respond to critical driving events captured by AI dash cams.

The new triage experience rolls related events up by driver and trip, packs more context into every row, and pairs each event with synced dual-camera footage and the route it happened on. It cut total inbox volume by 35% and lifted the critical event resolution rate by 6.3%.
